The Mars Shinshu 27 Year Old 1990 Komagatake was selected as the Best Japanese Blended Malt Whisky at the World Whiskies Awards in 2013, beating some very high calibre runners up. Crafted at the esteemed Shinshu distillery, this 27 Year Old single malt is the result of an expert blend of three Sherry casks distilled in the years 1986, 1988, and 1990, coupled with an American White Oak cask from 1986. This meticulous selection and blending process has yielded a whisky that is unparalleled in smoothness, balance, and richness.
The Mars Shinshu 27 Year Old 1990 Komagatake is a sensory journey, offering an array of elegant notes that unfold on the nose, dance across the palate, and linger on the finish. Its aroma is steeped in the richness of vanilla and dark raisin, a tribute to the influence of its historic casks. Each sip reveals a sweet, well-rounded profile, culminating in a subtly smoky conclusion that is both sophisticated and memorable.
Bottled in March 2018 after a glorious 27 years of aging, this limited edition whisky, with an ABV of 46.00% and housed in a 700ml bottle, is a rare gem within the Mars Komagatake collection, a piece of the Shinshu Distillery's rich history and a testament to the art of whisky-making at its finest.
